Who are our Coaches?

Bob Pringle, Head Coach

My triathlon initiation was the Mansfield Sprint of 1985 where, on crossing the finish line, every competitor was given a bottle of wine. I drank mine with a celebratory curry that night and I’ve never looked back!

I started to coach the club in the early 90’s, with weekly running sessions on the service roads of a local hospital. In 1997 I decided to ‘legitimise’ these activities by acquiring proper coaching qualifications. I’m currently a BTF Level 3 coach and really enjoy coaching in all disciplines. As a Coach Educator and Assessor, I’ve worked with British Triathlon for the last 15 years helping to swell the ranks of accredited coaches across the UK.

Despite 25 years in the sport, and whatever they might say about old dogs, I’m still learning new tricks and I’ve never lost my early enthusiasm for triathlon. I’ve raced all distances from sprint to Ironman.

Mick Clarkson, Head Coach (with Bob Pringle)

Triathlon has given me such enjoyment and taught me so much over the years that I want to    give something back. Since my first hesitant attempt at the first Sheffield Triathlon in 1986 I have gone on to compete at all levels of the sport both nationally and internationally and at most of the distances. I have been coaching for over 10 years and am qualified as a Level  2 Triathlon Coach.  I believe that every triathlete has something to gain from being properly coached whether your aspirations are to complete your first event or to win a medal at the Olympics. I am particularly interested in what motivates you and how that can be used to develop your potential.

Xavier Leuthrot

Hi to all, I’m Xavier with an X. I fell for triathlon about 6 years ago after my sister set me up for one in the south of France.

With a catering and teaching background, I now fill in my spare time with all those elements that make our sport so enjoyable and challenging.

Dedicated to do better every year but clearly seeing the years go past I have now decided in coaching others that, just like me need that extra bit of motivation and technique.

Hope that you will find my sessions challenging but rewarding.

Cheers.

my achievements so far:

sprint tri: southwell 56.57′

Olympic tri: Ripon 2hrs24min

1/2: day in the lake:5hrs51min

1/2 +: Alpes d’huez  6hrs swim /bike only (too cold to finish :) but back at it next year

I have been involved with triathlon on and off for over 15 years.  I first came to the sport when I started swimming and running during the winter to maintain my cycling fitness.  Soon I realised that triathlon was easily accessible and friendly for all levels of competitors, so I took up the sport.  Over the past three years I have rediscovered the sport, it has helped me loose quite a bit of weight and make some good friends along the way.  I took up coaching to help others discover the potential they have and share the enjoyment that I have from the sport.  After all, there is nothing better than the satisfaction of completing a four hour bike ride in the pouring rain!

After being encouraged to enter my first sprint triathlon in 2009 you could say that I came to triathlon fairly late. I had always understood that you had to be fit to do triathlon, and as living example of someone with triathlon experience, I hesitate to say “triathlete”, I can now say that this statement is not true. Fitness is not important, taking part is. For most of us the race is against yourself not the competition, and this element of the sport is what appeals to me as a triathlon coach. I like to see people discover that they can make progress, and for them to realise the benefit to themselves when they get that ‘eureka’ moment. 2012 will be my third full year of triathlon coaching.

Sarah Alton

Hi I’m Sarah. I was persuaded by a friend to do my first triathlon about 5 years ago. After  initially thinking “never again”! I decided to do some training, have another go and  see if I could improve. Then I became hooked! Five years later and I have completed sprint distance, olympic distance and half –ironman triathlons. It’s a great sport to be involved in at any age . I became a coach as I love to help people develop in the sport, gain confidence, discover their potential at whatever level they are at– and most of all to take part and  enjoy the sport. Everyone should have a go!
